Loose Women on Acid meets Waiting for Godot!
Zoozaazii Theatre presented their first play, a two hander, Pejazzled! at the Water Rats for the 2017 Camden Fringe.
Fellow actress Helen Frederick had helped shape the first draft of Pejazzled! and then a shorter work in progress version was performed at The Ivy House Pub in Nunhead.
As a result of audience feedback Luci and Catherine then spent some time shaping the narrative and symbolic elements with the help of Actor/ Director Andrew Shieldsmith.
With Andrew’s useful input as a Third Eye, the themes in Pejazzled! were defined and fleshed out and this lead to our performance over three nights at the Water Rats.
Two homeless women meet and their identities unfold in a dreamlike journey to reflect the female dilemma featuring role reversals and breakdowns. This absurd comic piece explores gender roles and sexuality using rhythm, guttural languages, theatrical Belly Dance, the struggle of Tango, DIY Instructions and mask work. The play is also inspired by the iconic Jeanie from the 60s television comedy I Dream of Jeanie
This is fresh devised theatre that will draw you into a surreal world. Prepare to be properly Pejazzled!
Our heritage of Italian and Indian ethnicity combined with both growing up in the colonial setting of Australia, and then relocating to London contributes to this work and also provided both shared and rich inspiration to draw upon throughout the devising process.
Research and Development
In December 2017 Zoozaazii were invited to Studio Four for a week as part of the Arcola LAB to develop Pejazzled!
This was a great chance for us to deepen the story, physicalise our characters and explore the use of live music to punctuate and enrich the text.
